Bessie & DeYea Norcott

This is a 4 1/2"x 2 3/4" sepia postcard print of Bessie Norcott Corson with her father DeYea Norcott. It was not postally used. I'm guessing from the clothing that the photo was taken around 1915 like the photos in the previous 2 posts.

Bessie Norcott Corson #6

Judging from Bessie's attire, this photo was taken on the same day (1915?) as the photo in the previous post (Bessie & Marge). It measures 4 1/2"x 2 1/2". I have no information on the location of the photo.

Bessie & Marge Corson

This small print features Bessie Norcott with her daughter (my grandmother) Marjorie Arline Corson. It is roughly 3" x 2 1/2" with uneven edges. Since Marge appears to be around 5 years old at the time of this photo, I will guess that this was probably taken in the Fall of 1915.

Bessie Norcott Corson #5

Bessie Norcott Corson is the young lady on the far left. The image with mat measures 5 3/4"x 4". She appears to be in her early 20s. I have no information on the other 2 women in the photograph. If anyone has any information, please contact me.

Bessie Norcott Corson#4

This is my favorite photo of my Great Grandmother Bessie. The image is approximately 4"x 3"; the mat is 6 1/2"x 5". I have no idea who wrote "Bess Norcott" in ink directly on the image; that is unfortunate. The back of the mat has the notation "Nov 1900 18 yrs old". I'm guessing this was her high school graduation photo.

Bessie Norcott Corson #3

This is the same photo featured in Bessie Norcott #2. It is also encased in a frame (2 1/2" in diameter) and can not be removed making scanning difficult. Unlike the photo in the previous post, this one is in black and white. No other information is available about these photos.

Bessie Norcott Corson #2

This undated, hand tinted photo is encased in a hexagonal frame that measures 3 1/2" in diameter.

It's difficult to see the detail in this scan. It was not possible to remove the photo from the frame for scanning; therefore, this image is slightly distorted.

James & Bessie Corson

This is a photo of James and Bessie Corson in their senior years. Unfortunately, we are unable to see James' face clearly. It looks like this was also taken in their backyard, maybe on the same day as the previous photo with the rabbits.

J. L. Corson Photo #7

This photo was taken in the backyard at James and Bessie's house at 1317 Hawthorn Ave, Waterloo, IA. I had no idea they kept rabbits until finding this photo. It measures 4 1/2" x 2 3/4".

J. L. Corson Photo #6

This is James Lester Corson holding a grandchild. The baby is possibly my dad, Doug Herron, or his older brother. Therefore, the photo was probably taken between 1935 and 1938. The B/W image is 4 1/2" x 2 3/4".

J. L. Corson Photo #5

In this undated photo James Lester Corson appears to be middle aged. It is a sepia toned printe embossed with "Pierce" at the center bottom. It measures roughly 6" x 3".

J. L. Corson Photo #4

This is one of the smallest photos I have in my collection. It measures 3 3/8" x 2 1/4" including the mat. This is the better of two identical photos. It features James Lester Corson on the left. The man on the right is currently unidentified. If anyone has an idea as to who the unidentified man is, please contact me.

J. L. Corson Photo #3

I have 2 copies of this photo of a young James Lester Corson. Could this perhaps be a high school graduation photo? The photo + mat measures 7 1/4" x 5". The mat is embossed in the lower left hand corner with Fritz photography, 316 W. 4th St., Waterloo, IA.

J. L. Corson Photo #2

This is one of my favorite photos of James Lester Corson. It is permanently sealed in this circular frame with a dark red velvet back. The frame measures 2 3/4" in diameter. It is an undated, hand tinted photo.

J. L. Corson

This is an undated photo of my great grandfather, James Lester Corson. He was the third child of Cyrus & Sarah Corson. The image itself measures 9" x 4". It is matted; however, the entire photo with mat did not fit on my scanner. The mat is stamped in gold colored ink in the lower right hand corner with the logo of Fritz photography, 316 W. 4th St, Waterloo, IA.

Cyrus & Sarah Corson

These photos are permanently sealed in side this metal frame. Each half measures 4"x 3 1/4". The photos are undated, but appear to have been taken at the same time.

Mystery Photo #2

This is the second tintype photo we have in our possession. We have no idea who this is or where it was taken. If this looks familiar to anyone, please contact me.

Mystery Photo #1

This one of two tintype photos that we have in our collection. We believe the woman on the right is Sarah Helen Carpender Corson. The man seems older than the two ladies; perhaps he is their father?
The location of the photo is unknown; it measures almost 4" by 2 1/2". There is no revenue stamp on the back and it did not have a paper sleeve. Judging from the clothing, the photo was taken prior to 1900.

Sarah Corson Photo #5

This undated photo shows Sarah Corson and her grandson DeYea Corson. It measures about
4 1/4" by 3 3/8". It is damaged near the top by permanent black marker. There is writing in pencil on the back (perhaps by Bessie Norcott) that says "Same surroundings. Mother & Junior."

Sarah Corson Photo #4

This is an undated photo measuring roughly 3 1/4" by 5 1/2"; the lower lefthand corner is cut off. Sarah Corson is seated in the center. My great grandmother, Bessie Norcott Corson, is on the right. If anyone knows who the other 3 women are, please contact me.

Sarah Corson Photo #3

This is a photo of Sarah Corson with four granddaughters. The little blonde girl (with the X)seated next to Sarah is my grandmother Marjorie (Marge) Arline Corson Herron. The photo measures 5"X3 1/2". I had no idea who the other children were until finding a second cousin once removed, K.C. Pease. Based on the fact that we can identify Marge, Kay was able to make an educated guess that the two other blondes are probably Alice and Ruth Rodamar, while the girl with the long dark hair is most likely Audrey Corson. Since my grandmother was born in 1910 and appears to be about 5 or 6 years old in the photo, my guess is that this picture was taken around 1915.

Sarah Corson Photo #2

This undated photo of Sarah Helen Carpender Corson is encased in protective cardboard that also serves as a frame. The cardboard is grey. The decorative mat that frames the photo is marbled with blue and grey. Including the mat/frame, it measures 8 1/2" x 6"; the image alone measures 5 5/8" x 3 5/8". The words at the bottom read "Portrait by Charles Pierce, Waterloo, IA."

Sarah Corson Photo

This is an undated photograph of my great, great grandmother Sarah Helen Carpender Corson. She was married to Cyrus Corson.

I have cropped this image, leaving out the decorative matting that surrounds the image. Otherwise, the photo is unaltered. It is sepia toned, finished with a linen texture. The original measures 10" x 6 15/16" (the part that is shown here measures 6 1/2" x 4"). The bottom right hand corner has raised print that spells "FLINT" (not included in the image on the right).

Cyrus Corson Photo

This is one of two photos that I have of Cyrus Corson. It measures 5 5/8" by 4 1/4" including the mat. The photo has not been altered in any way. However, it appears that the bottom of the mat has been shortened. The mat is embossed on the lower right hand side, but most of the information has been cut off. I'll work on including a short bio of Cyrus Corson in the near future.

Welcome!

This is a new blog created to help the descendants of Cyrus Corson & Sarah Carpender Corson reconnect. From time to time I will post historical & biographical information as well as photos of ancestors. I would especially like to hear from any distant relatives out there with photos or stories to add. I am new to genealogy as a hobby so this is a 'work in progress.' I welcome your comments, suggestions, and constructive feedback. Until next time...
